the Baby Buddha Project
Dear Friends in Dharma:
Since our founding in 2005, the White Sands Buddhist Center has become a spiritual temple for many individuals in the United States and other parts of the world. Indeed, we have worked hard to build and expand our facilities and infrastructure so that we are able to provide a peaceful and serene environment to hold our meditation retreats. Over the past eleven years, thousands of individuals have participated in our meditation retreats, which are conducted in both Vietnamese and English.
Due to the kindness and generosity of many, we are also blessed to have at the White Sands Monastery three large granite statues of the Buddha, including a large statue of the Sitting Buddha in Meditation that is more than 35 feet in height and weighing 200 tons, and considered to be the largest granite statue of the Buddha in the State of Florida.
While we are happy with the development of the White Sands, we believe that we have much more work to do as part of our goal to ensure that Buddha’s teachings of love, peace and wisdom are not only disseminated widely to the world in this current generation, but will continue to be passed onto future generations. Based on this aspiration, in 2013, we embarked on a project of building a memorial to signify the Birth of the Buddha (or the Baby Buddha) that is 35 feet in height, as well as granite columns engraved with the Buddha’s teachings.
After almost three years of efforts, we have completed the carving of the memorial of the Baby Buddha from granite that weighs approximately 150 tons. Please visit our website to see pictures of this work of the Birth of the Buddha: www.tvct.org
Now that the whole project has been completed, the next step is to transport it from Vietnam to the White Sands. As you can imagine, this is a high cost process as the transportation fee alone costing approximately $200,000. In addition, we are required by the Town of Mims, Florida to pave the road to the main Temple, and to create a handicap parking area. This is expected to cost $70,000. To complete this task, we sincerely ask for your generosity and kind assistance.
We believe that contributions to this effort is spiritually meaningful. Among other things, your contribution will to help to maintain, promote, and disseminate the Buddha’s teachings of love, peace, and wisdom. To recognize your generosity, we will include names of all contributors on a large granite tablet that will be prominently displayed on the Temple’s grounds.
We hope to receive your kindness and generosity in support of this project. For further details, please contact White Sands Buddhist Center, P.O. Box 328, Mims, Florida, 32754.
